Natural Stone Countertops
Granite remains one of the most popular surfaces on the market today. It is a natural material mined throughout the world. A metamorphic rock, it forms when magma cools quickly at the surface, forming a matrix of tiny crystals in various colors depending on the minerals it contains. Granite is extremely durable as well as beautiful. It resists heat and changing temperatures, making it the only choice for outdoor applications, such as outdoor kitchens.
Quartzite is often confused with quartz but is actually a natural material. A metamorphic stone, quartzite is formed when sand is heated and compressed within the earth. Its patterns and coloring is more similar to marble than granite. Unlike marble, however, it is extremely hard and durable. If you like the look of marble but want something more wear resistant, quartzite is a great option for you. Quartzite countertops are very durable and easy to care for. However, it is a porous material and will need to be sealed on a regular basis, similar to granite.
Marble is a natural material that has long been valued for its soft hues and gentle flowing lines. It is an extremely elegant material that looks beautiful in kitchens, bathrooms, on walls or on tables. Marble’s naturally cooling properties make it a favorite for kitchens since it won’t absorb the heat from the oven. It is, however, softer than granite or quartz and can become scratched if not cared for properly. We recommend marble for indoor surface projects.
Soapstone is a natural material, similar to granite and quartzite. It is chemically inert, i.e. chemicals won’t damage it! As a non reactive material, it doesn’t react to heat. Soapstone also has a very high density, making it impervious to stains and bacteria. It is composed largely of mineral talc, which gives soapstone its characteristically smooth “soap” feel. Soapstone is less diverse color wise than granite. Slab colors are typically medium gray and can have a greenish cast and over time, will oxidize, or darken, to a deep charcoal. Some soapstone may contain pronounced veining produced by quartz in the stone. Less brittle and less porous than granite, it is a very durable material for both indoor and outdoor use.
Quartz is a manufactured surface product that has become extremely popular over the past few years. Made from powdered quartz and resin, these hand poured slabs come in a wide variety of colors and patterns. We carry Quartz from a number of manufacturers, including Silestone, Caesarstone, Metroquartz, Viatera and many more. Quartz is a beautiful and durable surface material perfect for any indoor installation, including kitchens, bathrooms and utility rooms.
Solid surface is a non-porous and durable man-made surface material that was first introduced by DuPont in 1967 under the brand name Corian. It is an acrylic like material made using a mixture of mineral dust, typically marble, mixed with plastic resins and pigments. The result is a wide variety of surface materials in any color imaginable. Solid surface is extremely, durable, non-reactive, non-porous, easy to fabricate and has virtually invisible seams. We carry a number of solid surface products, including Corian, Wilson Art, Formica and Staron.
Dekton is a revolutionary new material made by Cosentino USA. This high density material is completely non porous, non reactive and won’t scratch or stain. Dekton withstands high temperatures without burning, scorching or cracking. Hot pots and appliances like crock pots can be placed directly on the surface with no worry of damage. Due to its incredibly versatile nature, Dekton can be used in both indoor and outdoor settings. In addition, Dekton comes in extra large sheets so can be used in large projects to minimize seams.
Laminate countertops are a lightweight and price efficient option for countertops. Our laminate countertops are custom made in house for your space using layers of durable plastic bonded to plywood decking. Laminate comes in an array of colors and textures, everything from wood grain to marble to stainless steel. Though not as durable as other surface products, laminate is easy to clean and will last for many years if it is well cared for and gently used.
