Soapstone Countertops

Soapstone is a natural material, similar to granite and quartziteIt is chemically inert, i.e. chemicals won’t damage it! As a non reactive material, it doesn’t react to heat. Soapstone also has a very high density, making it impervious to stains and bacteria. It is composed largely of mineral talc, which gives soapstone its characteristically smooth “soap” feel.  Soapstone is less diverse color wise than granite. Slab colors are typically medium gray and can have a greenish cast and over time, will oxidize, or darken, to a deep charcoal. Some soapstone may contain pronounced veining produced by quartz in the stone. Less brittle and less porous than granite, it is a very durable material for both indoor and outdoor use.
